Pull Like a Dog
The Scratch
There’s something particularly unique about The Scratch. Maybe it’s the fact that they’re blending folk-punk, thrash, and metal with Irish traditional music. Or maybe the fact that Daniel "Lango" Lang has the most Irish pub-laden vocals imaginable. Oh and did I mention they’re from Ireland? To be entirely honest though it’s incomparable. If you listen closely you can imagine KGLW doing something like this. But if you go to the next song you might find a song with reminders of The Cranberries. But if you tried to claim that The Scratch is either of them you’d be dead wrong. There’s a vibe that makes this album feel like it’s on shuffle. The only consistency is its inconsistencies. It can be disjointed but it’s a litmus test of sorts to see who “gets it” and who doesn’t. Their quieter moments (I Hope All is Forgiven) serve as the lullaby to the wake up call that is their heavier side (Gladrags). It’s not showing off their ability to make a perfectly balanced album. It feels more like a compilation of songs they knew were winners but were written in very different environments. Bono could never. #NotMyU2
